KNUST E-Learning Centre Launches Journal to Drive E-Learning Research
The KNUST E-Learning Centre has launched a new academic journal focused on research in e-learning.
The E-Learning Research and Practice Journal was launched during the university’s E-Learning Week 2025.
It is expected to publish research that will support the growth of online education across Africa and beyond.
Professor Eric Appau Asante, Director of the E-Learning Centre and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal, said the publication would focus on many areas. “This journal will welcome research from different areas,” he said.
“We are looking for articles on blended learning, instructional design, educational technologies, and virtual assessment.”
Professor Asante added that the journal would also accept case studies and reflections from practice.
“We want this to be a platform where scholars and professionals can share what they are learning and doing in e-learning,” he said.
The official launch was performed by Professor Awunyo-Vitor Dadson, Provost of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He said the journal would help address a gap.
“This journal is coming at a time when many of us are looking for where to publish research in e-learning,” he said. “It will help us share our findings and support others doing similar work.”
He recalled a time when he and other colleagues struggled to find a suitable platform for their research.
“I worked on a paper about stress and student performance during COVID-19, and it was hard to find a journal to accept it,” he said. “Now, with this journal, that challenge is being addressed.”
Professor Emmanuel Adinyira, from the Department of Construction Technology and Management, is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal. He explained how it would operate.
“We will publish two issues every year—one in July and one in December,” he said.
“The journal will be peer-reviewed and open-access.” Professor Adinyira said some of the best papers from the ongoing E-Learning International Conference have already been selected for the first issue in December 2025.
He added that the journal would support research in new areas like artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and other tools that are shaping online learning. “We are building something that reflects both global trends and local practice,” he said.
He encouraged lecturers, researchers, and graduate students to submit their work.
“This is a platform for everyone involved in digital teaching and learning,” he said. “It will help shape policy and guide future innovation.” The editorial board includes scholars from both Ghana and abroad. The E-Learning Centre says it plans to invite some keynote speakers from this year’s conference to serve as guest editors.
The journal will be available on the E-Learning Centre’s website.
It can also be accessed physically at the E-Learning Centre office, located at the Central Classroom Block on KNUST campus.
